| dc.description | The objective of the study was to evaluate animal welfare indicators in pigs before and during slaughter, in the municipal camal of Quevedo. Forms were designed to collect the information. To determine the sample size, the random sampling formula, and the slaughter data for the year 2021 were applied, determining a sample of 289 animals. The results indicate that during the investigation the entry of 926 animals from El Empalme, Echeandía, Pucayacu, Vinces, Quevedo, Santo Domingo, Pujilí, Guayas, Manta and La Maná was recorded. When the pigs arrived, no injured or dead animals were observed. 100% have water in the waiting pens, 14.07% ± 17.98 pigs fall or slip during the herding from the pen to the stunning area, 81.39% ± 26.51 vocalize, in 92.86% ± 10.78 of the animals the electric heifer was applied. During stunning, 35.71% ± 10.23 of the animals presented rhythmic breathing, 60% ± 13,378 presented a reflection in the cornea. 100% presented a response to electric shocks, 44.81% ± 12.07% had a reflex to stand, 49.40% ± 13.70% presented vocalization and 8.89% ± 12.59 received double stunning. It is concluded that the camal of the Quevedo canton complies with animal welfare indicators in infrastructure and management of animals in waiting pens, but does not meet the effectiveness of stunning, mainly due to the poor training of personnel and maintenance of equipment. | es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar indicadores de bienestar animal en porcinos antes y durante el faenamiento, en el camal municipal de Quevedo. Se diseñaron formularios para colectar la información. Para determinar el tamaño de la muestra se aplicó la formula del muestreo aleatorio y los datos de faenamiento del año 2021, determinandose una muestra de 289 animales. Los resultados indican que durante la investigación se registró el ingreso de 926 animales provenientes de El Empalme, Echeandía, Pucayacu, Vinces, Quevedo, Santo Domingo, Pujilí, Guayas, Manta y La Maná. Al arribo del ganado porcino no se observó animales lesionados ni muertos. El 100% disponen de agua en los corrales de espera, 14,07% ± 17,98 de cerdos caen o resbalan durante el arreo desde el corral a la zona de aturdimiento, el 81,39% ± 26,51 vocalizan, en el 92,86% ± 10,78 de los animales se aplicó la picaña eléctrica. Durante el aturdimiento el 35,71% ± 10,23 de los animales presentaron respiración rítmica, el 60% ± 13,378 presentó reflejo en la córnea. El 100% presentó respuesta a los choques eléctricos, un 44,81% ± 12,07 tuvo reflejo para pararse, 49,40% ± 13,70 presentó vocalización y el 8,89% ± 12,59 de recibieron doble aturdimiento. Se concluye que el camal del canton Quevedo cumple con indicadores de Bienestar animal en infraestructura y manejo de los animales en corrales de espera, pero no cumple con la efectividad del aturdimiento, debido principalmente a la poca capacitación del personal y mantenimiento de los equipos. | es_ES |
