Abstract
La investigación tuvo como finalidad evaluar la sostenibilidad y cultura ambiental de la
comunidad universitaria, se encuestó a un total de 2366 estudiantes de las diversas carreras
de la institución y 102 a docentes. Para determinar la sostenibilidad se aplicó el modelo del
Grupo de trabajo sobre Evaluación de la Sostenibilidad Universitaria (GESU) que consta
de 11 indicadores. Para evaluar la cultura ambiental se utilizó la encuesta modificada de
Wisconsin donde se evaluó las actitudes, comportamientos y conocimientos con enfoque
ambiental a la comunidad universitaria (estudiantes de las diferentes facultades y
docentes). Las variables de estudio fueron sistematizadas en una base de datos en una hoja
de cálculo en Microsoft Excel 2013, se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS V22 donde se
aplicó estadística descriptiva, estadística inferencial no paramétrica y estadística
multivariada.
La Universidad Técnica Estatal de Quevedo, obtuvo el nivel 1 que representa una
puntuación de 12,58%, evidenciando la necesidad de fortalecer las gestiones para alcanzar
el nivel de excelencia en este ámbito. El estudio reflejó que se presenta deficiencia en el
índice de energía y agua. El promedio institucional de la comunidad universitaria en
cultura ambiental presentó 5,6 lo que indica un nivel bajo. En el estamento de docencia
reflejó una puntuación de 6,1 y 5,1 con respecto a los estudiantes, determinando un ICA
inaceptable. El cuestionario analizado permitió concluir como el profesorado influye en
ciertas actitudes y comportamientos de los estudiantes, no es posible incrementar la cultura
ambiental en las aulas si los docentes no se someten a constante preparación con respecto
al área ambiental. Por lo cual; implementar las estrategias planteadas para cada uno de los
indicadores analizados, permitirá que la sostenibilidad en la UTEQ incremente.
Description
The research had the purpose of evaluating the sustainability and environmental culture of
the university community. A total of 2366 students of the different careers of the institution
and 102 teachers were surveyed. To determine sustainability, the model of the Working
Group on the Evaluation of University Sustainability (GESU) was applied, which consists
of 11 indicators. To evaluate the environmental culture, the modified survey of Wisconsin
was used, where the attitudes, behaviors and knowledge with environmental approach to
the university community (students of the different faculties and teachers) were evaluated.
The study variables were systematized in a database in a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel
2013, using the statistical program SPSS V22 where descriptive statistics, non-parametric
inferential statistics and multivariate statistics were applied.
The Quevedo State Technical University obtained level 1, which represents a score of
12.58%, evidencing the need to strengthen efforts to achieve the level of excellence in this
area. The study reflected that there is a deficiency in the energy and water index. The
institutional average of the university community in environmental culture presented 5.6
which indicates a low level. In the teaching staff, it reflected a score of 6.1 and 5.1 with
respect to students, determining an unacceptable ICA. The analyzed questionnaire allowed
concluding how the teaching staff influences certain attitudes and behaviors of the
students, it is not possible to increase the environmental culture in the classrooms if the
teachers are not submitted to constant preparation regarding the environmental area.
Therefore, implementing the strategies proposed for each of the indicators analyzed will
allow sustainability to increase at UTEQ.
