Abstract
Las plantas ornamentales cada día tienen mayor importancia dentro del paisajismo y jardinería de áreas verdes públicas o privadas. Estas especies vegetales contribuyen con sus caracteres ornamentales a embellecer y mejorar el entorno del ambiente, logrando un lugar de esparcimiento para el hombre en su vida cotidiana. La población siempre ha manifestado su interés en adquirir una diversidad de especies, ya sea por el tamaño, color y forma de sus hojas, por lo que actualmente el mercado de producción y consumo se encuentra en constante desarrollo, aunque es muy escasa la información bibliográfica existente. En tal sentido el objetivo del presente trabajo de investigaciones analizar la problemática existente en torno a la producción, comercialización de las plantas ornamentales y su incidencia en el sector agrícola, así como, la importancia en el desarrollo socioeconómico del cantón Quevedo y de la región. Se realizó una investigación de carácter descriptivo que analizo e interpreto sistemáticamente la información recabada. Los resultados reportaron que la población las adquiere por la satisfacción que le brindan al decorar su casa o jardín y prefieren las palmas, arbustos helechos e ixoras. El 48% de la población encuestada se dedica a la producción y comercialización de las plantas ornamentales. La comercialización se realiza en viveros (22%), recorridos por la ciudad (48%). Las plantas más requeridas son las palmas (35%), los arbustos (17%) y helechos (13%), por el color y forma de sus hojas y, el tamaño de la planta. Los ingresos recibidos no cubren sus necesidades básicas por lo que no han mejorado su calidad de vida y no han aportado al desarrollo agrícola del cantón Quevedo, siendo necesario realizar programas de capacitación, creación de empresas y acceso a créditos viables con interés bajos

The results reported that the population acquires by the satisfaction that you provide to decorate your home or garden, and prefer the palms, shrubs and ferns ixoras. The 48% of the surveyed population is devoted to the production and marketing of ornamental plants. The marketing is done in nurseries (22%), city tours (48%). Plants are more required thepalms (35%), shrubs (17%) and ferns (13%), by the color and shape of their leaves, and the size of the plant. The income received do not cover their basic needs so you don't have improved their quality of life and have not contributed to the agricultural development of the canton Quevedo, being necessary to carry out training programs, business creation and access to credit viable with low interest.
