| dc.description | Historically, Ecuador has been one of the countries that has provided high percentages of balsa wood to the international market. The raft, for its rapid growth, is a species of interest to many farmers looking to get short-term income through plantations of balsa. This species is planted in several provinces of Ecuador, especially in areas of foothills in the Amazon and the Ecuadorian Coast. However, precise data are not available on the growth of the raft in the province of Manabi. Within this context, this study aimed at evaluating the mean annual increment (MAI) of Ochroma pyramidale (balsa) in three localities of the province of Manabi was raised and established the alternative hypothesis that the quality of the sites if affect the growth of O. pyramidale. To test the hypothesis growth variables in diameter and height of the raft were measured, and based on these measurements the IMA of each variable is determined for each of the three study sites. Among the results highlighted the fact that the best overall height was average for the site 1 corresponding to the parish San Placido, just for the DAP at an average of 22.5 cm; with respect to the best place basal area was 21.4 m2 barraganete with you, the IMA for DAP remains San Placido the average better and better IMA 5.64 cm in height 4.25 m. | dc.description.abstract | Históricamente, Ecuador ha sido uno de los países que ha provisto altos porcentajes de madera de balsa al mercado internacional. La balsa, por su rápido crecimiento, es una especie de interés para muchos agricultores, que buscan obtener ingresos a corto plazo, mediante establecimiento de plantaciones de balsa. Esta especie es plantada en varias provincias del Ecuador, especialmente en las zonas de estribaciones, en la Amazonía y el Litoral ecuatoriano. Sin embargo, no están disponibles datos precisos sobre el crecimiento de la balsa en la provincia de Manabí. Dentro de este contexto, en esta investigación se planteó el objetivo de evaluar el incremento medio anual (IMA) de Ochroma pyramidale (balsa), en tres localidades de la provincia de Manabí y se estableció la hipótesis alternativa de que la calidad de los sitios si afectan el crecimiento de O. pyramidale. Para contrastar la hipótesis se midieron las variables de crecimiento en diámetro y altura de la balsa, y en base a estas mediciones se determinó el IMA de cada variable, para cada uno de los tres sitios de estudio. Entre los resultados encontrados, destaca el hecho de que el mejor promedio en altura total fue para el sitio 1 que corresponde a la parroquia San Plácido, igual para el DAP en un promedio de 22,5 cm; en lo que respecta a área basal el mejor sitio fue barraganete con 21,4 m2 ha-1, el IMA para DAP sigue siendo San Plácido el de mejor promedio con 5,64 cm y mejor IMA en altura con 4,25 m. Además, se desarrolló una propuesta de reforestación con balsa en los sitios de mayor crecimiento en la provincia de Manabí. | es_ES |
