Abstract
MgC/ha-1
y 1,44 MgC/ha-1
y en el año 6 incrementa a 195,40 MgC/ha-1
a 52,76 MgC/ha1
respectivamente.
(rango 2,11 - 4,46 MgC/ha-1
), con un promedio de 2,87 MgC/ha-1
, en SOTB, fue de 2,61
MgC/ha-1
y en el suelo: 0 a 30 cm 247,90 MgC/ha-1
y 30 a 60 cm 223,58 MgC/ha-1

Description
The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the carbon storage dynamics
(C) in Melina forest plantations (Gmelina arborea Roxb), Pedro Vicente Maldonado
canton, and period 2012 - 2018. 15 permanent sampling plots (PPM) of 1000 were
established m2 and in each one 2 sub-plots were established, one of 2x2m for
measurement of understory biomass (SOTB) and one of 50x50cm for detritus not alive
(DNV). The soil samples were collected at five points within the PPM, at two depths 0-
30 cm and 30 to 60 cm. The analyzed parameters were pH, apparent density, color,
texture, organic matter structure and total organic carbon (TOC). The values obtained
from aerial biomass (BA) and ground biomass (BS) in year 1 is 5.33 MgC / ha-1 and 1.44
MgC / ha-1 and in year 6 it increases to 195.40 MgC / ha -1 to 52.76 MgC / ha-1
respectively. The C captured by leaf litter and DNV was relatively moderate (range 2.11
- 4.46 MgC / ha-1), with an average of 2.87 MgC / ha-1, in SOTB, it was 2.61 MgC / ha1 and on the ground: 0 to 30 cm 247.90 MgC / ha-1 and 30 to 60 cm 223.58 MgC / ha-1.
On the average of TOC in the study area stores 725.68 MgC / ha-1, which are distributed
as follows: BA 195.53 MgC / ha-1 representing 26.94%; BS 52.79 MgC / ha-1 with
7.27%; SOTB 2.61 MgC / ha-1 with 0.36%; DNV 2.87 with 0.40% and soil 471.88 MgC
/ ha-1 representing 65.03%. The economic valuation of the carbon sequestration service
is US $ 11087.89 ha-1; where the soil provides the greatest amount of carbon stored with
65.03%; followed by aerial biomass 26.94%; 7.27% underground and to a lesser extent
the detritus did not live 0.40% and undergrowth 0.36%. This type of systems is important
when generating alternatives for mitigation against the effects of climate change.
